We were trying to cover as much country as possible our last few days at Apgar View Ranch. One of the short rides I took was up to Standard Peak. My neighbor, a young lady visiting Mt. and I loaded up the trailer and headed up the McGinnis access road. I’ve never been up here before so wasn’t sure what kind of trail we would find.
The trail turned out to be surprisingly very good. We ride the old logging roads up McGinnis frequently and I’ve never seen any activity up at this trailhead. This trail had no blowdown, the grade wasn’t to bad, and there was very little brush grown into the trail.
The views from the summit of Standard Peak are amazing. You can see most all of the Flathead valley. You can see the mountains of Glacier all lined up in front of you, and you can see to the north and west for many miles.
I think this is a relatively little know trail. It might be 3.5 miles total up to the summit. Elevation is around 7200′ but you get to drive most of that up to the trailhead. This trail is definitely one not to be skipped over.
